Air conditioning is important for maintaining indoor comfort during the hottest days of the year. It keeps the summer heat outside while making it possible to sleep comfortably at night and go about your normal daily routine while at home. According to SBE, a business training and coaching service, about 90% of homes in the United States have an air conditioner. Like all mechanical things, your AC system needs maintenance and occasional repair services done by a qualified air conditioner contractor. If your AC system is acting up, here are four signs that you need AC repair services.
You should feel cool air blowing from the vents when your AC system runs. If the air is lukewarm or you don't feel any air moving, a problem needs fixing. You might have a refrigerant leak, a bad blower motor, or another problem making it impossible for your air conditioner to do its job. Until fixed, your home won't be as comfortable as it should be on hot days.
AC systems commonly produce condensation that flows out of a drainage tube. That tube might be clogged, blocked, or damaged and cause the water to flow into your home instead of draining away from it. If you notice water accumulating near the AC unit or water damage near your system's woodwork, an air conditioner contractor can diagnose the problem and fix it.
You shouldn't hear anything other than air flowing from the vents when your AC system is running. A bad belt, defective bearing, or another mechanical problem might cause your AC system to make unusual and loud noises that might make it difficult to sleep at night. Whenever your air conditioner is making unusual sounds, it's a good idea to have the system checked and maintained or repaired as needed.
Sometimes, an air conditioner might turn on and run for a couple of minutes and then shut off without affecting the air temperature inside your home. After it's off for a couple of minutes, it might start up again and run for a short time before shutting off again and repeating the cycle. The problem is often a defective thermostat, which an
air conditioner contractor can replace.
